Perhaps my first acknowledgement should go to “Hakan.” If I had not met him and fallen in love with him, this novel would not have been written. Thank you. I will never forget you.

In late 2011, I made a decision to find out if my first book of fiction was good enough to publish. I searched the Internet to find information about publishers and the types of advice that other would-be authors wanted to share. I found many positive comments about Pedernales Publishing.

Accessing the Pedernales Publishing website, I contacted Barbara Rainess. Her continuous warmth, enthusiasm, encouragement, and reams of detailed comments and advice inspired me to work hard and never give up. Responding to all my emails, she took the time to read and comment on my early drafts and to offer further assistance. She was my mentor. I began to believe I could be a published author.

By mid-2012, Barbara Rainess recognised that I was ready for my next step. She told me that a professional editor would guide me to get my book formatted and ready to meet Pedernales Publishing’s criteria. She next advised me to contact an expert editor and author, Barbara Ardinger, Ph.D. I would, she said, learn more about the discipline of writing.

Wow…how fortunate am I! I gained another excellent mentor. Barbara Ardinger truly loves the English language. She is a warm, humorous, aware, lively-minded teacher and friend who cares about writing, and supports and encourages naïve authors like me. I felt we always worked together as a team and appreciated her honest feedback. I have already written another novel and know that Barbara Ardinger is my editor of choice for this and any other books I write.
